A Pre-K Alum Reflects

As I enter the eighth grade, I’ve been reflecting on my journey and how it all started with the District 20 Pre-K Centers. I wanted to share a little bit of my experience there for newcomers to know what makes it so special.

I remember always being excited with activities in the centers during playtime and even circle time when the teacher sat with the whole class. We were able to be super creative when doing experiments with Ms. Carbonaro during STEAM. I was comforted and supported when I was scared to participate in the Going on a Bearhunt activity during movement class. By the end of the year, I felt brave enough and had so much fun.

We were taught how to treat others with kindness by sharing toys, waiting for our turn, and including everyone. One of my favorite memories was when students were chosen to say the pledge of allegiance on the loudspeaker with Mrs. Guzman. When I was chosen, I remember being so excited and felt so special being given the responsibility and trust to lead the school in the pledge.

I still go back to visit my old teachers when I can. Ms. Carissimi and Ms. Perrone are always happy to see me and remind me how much I loved talking and sharing stories from home. I also still have the ornament I made when I was in Pre-K and every year I hang it on my Christmas tree and remember all the fun I had.

I’m glad that I am able to reflect on my Pre-K year so fondly because I know this school has helped me become the inquisitive student I am today.
